A weekend in Northern Italy

Bergamo, to be exact. Here is the view from the upper town, reached by a ride in the funicular or for the less adventurous the city tour bus will take you the long way round.

On the Sunday Bergamo had lots going on. I suppose it was their equivalent of a gala day. There was a mini marathon, (we stood at the finish line and gave some runners a good Scottish cheer) a cycle race, a parade with marching bands and the medieval club doing their thing. Lots of stalls with nice things to eat and drink, in true Italian style.

This is the main thoroughfare, you can see the old town in the distance.....

As you might expect there are many spectacular buildings.....

We will definately go back. It is only just over 2 hours from our local airport (Glasgow, Prestwick) direct to Bergamo. Next time we will plan in a visit to Milan (45mins from Bergamo) or the northern lakes.

Looks like you had a lovely time Liz. I think we landed at Bergamo airport when we went to Lake Garda a few years ago, but we didn't see much of it.xx
