A day in the life...

Hello. Recently I was asked to write about a typical day in the Buttons for Brains household. It was great fun to do and made me realise just how much us crafters can pack into one day! You can read the article in the latest issue of

Now for something completely different. When does a piece of cardstock become too small to keep? This is the box where I keep all the cardstock I have 'cut into'.
It has become very unruly!
Handy pieces for diecutting and whatnot but I spend an age looking for the perfect bit and end up just going to the 'new' box.....
So what do you think? Is it worth spending time sparing the larger bits from the re-cycle bin? What does everyone else do with their bits? I'd love to know.

Congratulations on your article, Liz.
I don´t throw any paper away and always try to use every single piece and leftovers. Just like Leonardo da Vinci: never throw paper because it´s to valuable.
I use them for paper piecing, paper mache, decorate envelopes with them and collect tiny pieces to make new paper from them one day. There are many great tutorials on YouTube how to make recycled paper. :-D

I can't bear throwing paper or card away - it hurts!! I keep it in a separate box, but must admit it can get hard to find just the right piece!
Looking forwards to reading your article :)

Now I am almost ashamed to tell you about my bits. They started of in one drawer then took over another. I then bought two magazine racks which later became three - one is completely full of scraps and they are now falling over into the other two! I do use them for bits for die cutting but I need to be more diligent in using them up! Susan x

Oooh errrr... I wouldn't dare show you a pic of my scrap folder AND box AND file... I think it's time to spring clean and get rid of the tiny bits I'll never use!

Superb article Liz and a great read.
Yep some how we fit a lot in to a day.
Your scrap box is err a bit messier than mine! So I guess it takes a while to fine what you are looking for.
I'm perhaps a bit OCD but I have my scraps / snippets in colour coded sections with the mini bits and strips in a little wallet for each colour! It's a pain 'filing' them away but much easier to find. I guess you've got to weigh up what's worthwhile.

I'm the worst one ti ask... Keep nearly all my off cuts 'just in case'. Every year or so I have to force myself to throw some scraps away... If you come up with the 'answer' let me know!

I was only thinking about this a couple of days ago when I joined in at Snippets Playground and thought....how big is a snippet? I have 3 boxes....a huge toy box of big bits, an A4 box of small to medium and an A5 of teeny tiny bits!.....and I never seem to think to look in them! Tell me the answer if you know!!

I save mine up and donate them to the local primary school when I have a nice pile for their young children to use in arts & crafts. Kids have a brilliant imagaination, and make some amazing pictures/ collages out of our snippets.
